Life With No Computer

I decided to check out the Daily Prompt today and it was about the exact thing I’ve been thinking a lot about lately!  Amazing.

I’ve been thinking about what life would be like without a computer…. Facebook in particular.  I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook.  I love that I can keep tabs on my friends that are now scattered all over the globe.  But I hate that, although it has made it easier to find people, it has made our lives so much more impersonal.  I rarely talk to any of those friends on the phone or visit them or send birthday cards.  It has become no big deal to announce that Grandma has cancer in a Facebook status and not bother to call anyone and talk to them about it. (My mom does this all the time.)  And it has made it so much easier for people to drive you crazy with post after post on their political views or new found veganism…. not that there is anything wrong with being vegan but I don’t want to read about tofu for four pages of my newsfeed.

I deleted my Facebook account once.  It lasted 3 months.  The fact is that it is just too easy and everyone uses it.  Without it, I don’t think I’d keep in touch with anyone at all!  It’s really sad.  Facebook is evil and I can’t live without it.  Unfortunately, I also can’t delete my mother.

So if I didn’t have a computer, Facebook problem solved!  But oh the problems it would create!

How would I email?

How would I read the news? (I HATE the smell of a newspaper!)

How would I go to school?  (I would actually have to GO to class?  Who has time for THAT?)

How would I get my new blog here to take off?  (Let’s face it, that one isn’t going to happen anyway.)

Really, We could all live without computers.  We wouldn’t die.  Life would be more difficult but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.  Maybe people would spend less time on YouTube and more time outside.

I’ll keep my computer, but maybe I’ll have a digital fasting day once a week.  I like that idea.
